On Saturday September 4, 2010 at 10:30 am, many will gather at Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, Pa to participate in the 2nd Annual Jerry Summers Memorial Motorcycle Run and Picnic for Lupus to honor the memory of Jerry Wayne Summers who passed away on February 6, 2009 from complications due to Lupus. 

Jerry Summers was a radio DJ for 25 years throughout the United States and has been a local radio voice as the Commercial Production Director for Froggy Radio since 2003.  He was a well known and respected actor on the Pittsburgh stage,  but more than anything, he was a loving husband and father. He left behind his wife Becky, and five beautiful children, Laura, Matthew, Shawn, Emily and Jonny.    

100% of the profits collected for the run will be donated in Jerry's name to the Lupus Center of Excellence.  Located at Magee Women’s Hospital , in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, the Lupus Center of Excellence leads the way in some of the most cutting edge research in the world.  They have made discoveries about how the disease works, determined some of its many causes and created drugs and treatments that raise the quality and length of the lives of those who suffer from the disease.  While they provide superior care to Lupus patients from all around the world, we are blessed in Pittsburgh to have them first and foremost, serving our community.

The run will begin at Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church at 100 Timothy Drive in Elizabeth, Pa.  At approximately noon, once everyone has registered, we will depart for a beautiful 73 mile late summer ride to Mineral Beach and Grove #5 in Finleyville, Pa where we will have a picnic of Hot Dogs,Fried Chicken and side dishes.  The pool is open until 7 pm for $6.00 for 13 and up and $3.00 for 12 and under.

There will be one stop along the way at Richeyville Friendship Lounge for snacks, drinks and a restroom stop.  There is a Get Go right next door so if you need to gas up, you can. 

If you do not want to go on the ride but want to attend the picnic, you can arrive at Pavillion #5 anytime after 2 pm.  The riders will arrive there around 3 pm or so and dinner will commence around 3:30. 

The event will end around 5:30 or 6 pm. 

The cost of the event is $20/Driver and $10/additional rider.  If you are interested in attending only the Picnic, the cost is $10 per person, kids 12 and under are $5.

Payment of the registration fee is due at the event regardless of whether registration is done online or at the church the morning of the run.
